Résidant à Madrid, Rayko Peña est un DJ et producteur espagnol profondément influencé par les sons des années 70 et 80, à savoir disco, funk, boogie et rock. En 2008, il démarre son propre label Rare Wiri Records, attirant l’attention avec une première sortie de lui-même et d’un autre natif des Îles Canaries: Ilya Santana. Il s’ensuit une série de maxis de producteurs talentueux tels que Ilija Rudman, Ichisan, Phoreski, Marbeya Sound ou Beatfanatic, sans oublier Rayko lui-même. Réputé pour être extrêmement prolifique, il prend rapidement ses marques et multiplie les apparitions sur des labels incontournables des scènes baléarique et nu-disco: Eskimo Recordings, Is it Balearic?, Lumberjacks In Hell ou encore Nang. Au fil des années, il produit une liste impressionnante d’edits de pépites oubliées et de classiques (impossible de ne pas mentionner son excellent rework du Nights On Broadway de Candi Staton, paru en 2011), allant même jusqu’à sortir un album d’edits en 2012, Dragon Soul. Mais ses talents ne s’arrêtent pas là. Il est sollicité pour remixer des morceaux de Psychemagik, Space Ranger, Beatfanatic, ou encore Ilya Santana, s’investissant également dans des productions originales qui se concrétisent sous la forme d’un premier album, Rebirth, sorti récemment sur le label anglais Nang. Côté DJ, il mixe parfois ses propres re-edits disco et funk, intégrant néanmoins à ses sets des sons disco et house plus contemporains. Based in Madrid, Rayko Peña is a spanish DJ and producer deeply influenced by the sounds of the 70’s and 80’s, namely disco, funk, boogie and rock. In 2008, he launches his own imprint Rare Wiri Records, gaining attention with a first output by himself and another native of the Canary Islands: Ilya Santana. This is followed by an array of EPs by talented producers including Ilija Rudman, Ichisan, Phoreski, Marbeya Sound or Beatfanatic, not to mention Rayko himself. Notably prolific as a producer, he quickly makes his mark and manages to be featured on some essential record labels in the balearic and nu-disco scenes: Eskimo Recordings, Is it Balearic?, Lumberjacks In Hell or Nang. Over the years, he delivers an impressive list of edits of lost gems and classics (we can’t not mention his killer rework of Candi Staton‘s Nights On Broadway, out in 2011), leading him to release an LP of edits in 2012, Dragon Soul. But his talents don’t stop there. He’s asked to lend his skilled hand to remix tracks by Psychemagik, Space Ranger, Beatfanatic, or Ilya Santana, and is also delved into original production with the recent release of a debut LP, Rebirth, on British label Nang. As a DJ, he sometimes uses his own classic disco and funk re-edits, but his sets also integrate modern day disco and house.
